Our mission at Haven Movement Centre is to provide a safe, welcoming, and enriching space for kids and their families to explore movement in a fun and functional way.
Our Move, Play, Learn program is an extension of that mission; in that we want kids to have even more opportunity to develop through movement during their rapidly developing preschool-stage. We believe kids learn best through play and by being empowered to use movement for expression, learning, and fun, whenever possible.
Our Vision for this program is to provide opportunities for kids to: develop deeper connections to their sense of self and autonomy, have open-ended play, practice executive functioning skills for life-long success, relationship build with peers and instructors, explore cognitive learning through sensory, play, and movement opportunities. All while in a safe, community-driven space, with warm/gentle instruction that meets kids where they are at.
We understand that in today’s world- due to many factors such as socio-economics, housing, work requirements, energy, more screens, and more; there may be less opportunities for unstructured active play & movement for pre-school aged-kids, and developmentally appropriate movement and learning time built into your child’s day may be just what your child needs to grow, thrive, and be their best-self at this stage! And YOU deserve the break, and to share some of that load with the community. They say it takes a village, and we believe building a stronger community, and allowing kids to learn and be exposed to different environments and people can be so beneficial for your family. With instructors that love working with kids, that see the value in our core pillars, and who love to see kids grow and progress. Haven is that place for you.
We can't wait to move, play, and learn with you soon!

Creator/Director Bios

Michelle R. - Program Director
Hi, I’m Michelle! As a mother, teacher, and coach, my world revolves around the brilliant curiosity of children. With years of experience as an EAL literacy teacher and gymnastics coach, I’ve worked with all ages—but my heart belongs to the preschool years.

I believe children are uniquely creative beings who shouldn't be pressured to simply get 'ready' for the next grade, level, or stage of life. At Haven Movement Centre, I’m dedicated to encouraging the magic of childhood. I strive to create a safe, child-centered space where 3-to-5-year-olds are empowered to lead their own learning through play and movement-based learning. We hope this special preschool aged program will offer children opportunities to grow, learn and thrive. I can’t wait to meet your little ones and celebrate exactly who they are today.

Marissa D. - Haven Owner/Manager
I created this centre as a safe place for kids to explore movement in a fun and functional way through gymnastics foundations and other movement and arts. As a mom of two kids, an Auntie, and manager/instructor of kids programming for many years, I am immersed in kids' worlds often. From these lenses, I can see what is beneficial, needed, and desired in our community from parents who want to raise confident, strong, healthy, resilient, and uninhibited kids. As a creative, I am always looking at how we can grow, innovate, and collaborate to create amazing opportunities for our future generations, and the generations who are raising them.
I believe all children deserve spaces and opportunities to be themselves, build their confidence, try new things, and to learn through movement and play. We already provide many opportunities at the centre through our classes and events for kids to explore movement, and we felt a pull to create an extended movement based learning opportunity for preschool age kids, that builds off of our pre-school gymnastics program, with greater cognitive learning opportunities provided through movement, play, and exploration. We believe a non-rigid and creative approach, that allows kids to follow their need to move their bodies, in a safe and respectful way, can provide an optimal environment for learning, creating, developing crucial executive functioning skills, and growing.
We are excited to see this program take form, and for it to grow into what will best serve this community! We can’t wait to meet you and to move with you soon.
