Haven Social Story

Going to a new place can bring up all kinds of feelings and behaviour for a child, some we might as parents or caregivers expect, and others that might surprise us!

Having a plan, talking through what will happen, setting expectations, and normalizing feelings are all great ways to ease those uncertain feelings, and set your child up for success whether they are joining our centre for a class, or other event!

We created this Haven Social Story as a great simple visual and auditory explanation of how a typical class runs at Haven from the time they arrive until it is finished. It explains some boundaries, expectations, what will occur, what they will get to do, and shows them that Haven is a fun, welcoming, and exciting place to be.

Another great way to introduce our centre to your child is to stop by prior to their first day of class to visit, or to even join an open gym session if applicable to their age.

We have a printed copy of the social story in our lobby/viewing area to read through- come a little early before your first class! Or you can view it online here as well anytime!
